Bird flu information must be shared

Jamie L. Adcock, Knoxville

Although I normally respect Dan Thomasson's opinions, his Dec. 25 column set off alarm bells at so many levels I felt I had to respond. As a retired professor at the University of Tennessee, I have no hidden agenda. When I heard about the bird flu results, and the discussions on PBS of Dr. Anthony Fauci and one of the editors of Science, I, too, was shocked, but not in the same way as Dan. I was shocked at how "easy" it was to accomplish the few mutations necessary to make H5N1 easily transmissible without losing its virulence. This is truly alarming, because it means that the virus might, quite naturally, mutate in just a few years to a truly worldwide pandemic such as the 1919 swine flu pandemic that killed more people than the horrors of World War I. We must be ready, and knowledge, not ignorance, will be our salvation. Ignorance won't stop the natural processes by which viruses move between species and exchange genetic material — it is the way they obey the "biological imperative" to survive and multiply.
His prescriptions for remedy are truly frightening: government ownership and control of the scientific results it sponsors. It is the scientist's idea that leads innovation and advancement; the government merely makes it possible to do so in an open environment. Government control concentrates power, and as we know power corrupts. A government, corporations or fanatics of any ilk in control of the existential fate of humanity is truly scary. Open knowledge allows us to prepare, make a vaccine, inoculate all people and protect ourselves. Otherwise millions, even billions, could sicken and die. Wouldn't it be horribly ironic if the descendants of the dinosaurs, the chicken, led to our demise? I hope you got your pandemic H1N1 vaccination last year. Do you trust the government with such power? Which power? Who do you trust?

H1N1 flu scare hit isolated Manitoba reserve hard: study

H1N1 flu scare hit isolated Manitoba reserve hard: study

"Not only could residents not wash their hands at home, the communal taps that serve the reserve may have been a nexus for H1N1 germs." I don't believe this. That is not how you catch the flu virus, other germs yes.

"The area around the pump was littered with garbage, posing a potential health hazard, and the pump handle could have served as a means of transmitting the novel H1N1 virus," wrote Pollock. Wrong again.

"It's not clear who brought H1N1 into the remote community." But it is clear to me.

You will not need nurses and doctors to fight the flu virus, just my knowledge.

À propos de moi

I named myself that way because I kill the flu virus. Is'nt that unbelievable? I find that unbelievable that nor my ancestors or the doctors have not imagine how to kill it. The flu costs every year $81 billion to the American economy. The rest of the world must be spending more. Give me $1 billion and it will be the last billion spent on the flu virus. Because it is easy to fight the flu when you have my imagination. With some observations you see a weakness to that virus. I don't need flu vaccine, drug or chemical.

The virus need...

I was reading this article from Syfy News.

New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS) Swine flu cases have come down significantly with only about 22 cases and one death being reported across the country during the last week.

According to the health ministry, 22 cases of H1N1 have been reported between Nov 16 to 21, across three states. The lone death was reported from Orissa, which did not report any fresh case.

Tamil Nadu had the highest number with 11 cases while Karnataka had four cases and Rajasthan had six.

According to experts, the swine flu cases will come down further as winter approaches as the virus needs moisture and heat to thrive.

I am wondering about that affirmation the virus needs moisture and heat to thrive.

Flu Attack! How A Virus Invades Your Body

Nice video but it is so easy to fight the flu. The problem is that you are looking at it so closely that you don't see the weakness.

Flu Vaccine for People 65 Years and Older: Fluzone High-Dose

Sunday September 26, 2010

There is now a special flu vaccine for people who are 65 and older, called Fluzone High-Dose.

As the name implies, Fluzone High-Dose contains more antigen than regular flu vaccines - four times the amount, to be precise. This vaccine was specifically designed for older people, as immune systems are less responsive as people age. The higher dose of antigen should ensure a higher response (meaning more protection against the flu).

It looks like there were more of the typical side effects (sore arm, headache, low fever) after the Fluzone High-Dose, compared to the regular flu vaccine. However, there were not more serious adverse events.

Be aware that there is also a regular Fluzone, so if you are interested in the Fluzone High-Dose, make sure you are very specific in this request.

Flu-Killer: No vaccine needed with me, no matter the quality of the vaccine. You can not imagine how easy it is to fight the flu. That is why I asked for $50 million.

It's FRIDAY 13th. Prepare to lose your job in the flu business. L'Organisation mondiale de la santé perd sa crédibilité et moi je la cherche.

The World Health Organization loses its credibility and I seek it.

The CDC will also launch its latest vaccination campaign, Flu Ends With U. - No, it ends with me. ;-)

I wonder if pudina and kalamegha are good to fight the flu.

(FluKiller) ;-)

Me, I just find a way to kill the flu, that is why I call myself the "Flu Killer". ;-)
